Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • Oil for frying
Cinnamon-Sugar Coating
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Chocolate Sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz dark chocolate, chopped

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 2: Combine Flour

Stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour all at once. Keep stirring until a dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the saucepan, which should take about 2 minutes.

Step 3: Cool and Add Egg

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the dough cool slightly. Beat in 1 large egg until the mixture is smooth and shiny.

Step 4: Heat Oil

In a deep saucepan, heat oil to 375°F (190°C).

Step 5: Pipe the Dough

Spoon the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil.

Step 6: Fry the Churros

Fry the churros until golden brown, turning occasionally, for about 2 minutes per side.

Step 7: Drain Churros

Use a slotted spoon to remove the churros from the oil and drain them on paper towels.

Step 8: Coat with Cinnamon-Sugar

In a shallow dish, mix together 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Roll the warm churros in this mixture until well coated.

Step 9: Make the Chocolate Sauce

In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup of heavy cream over low heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat, add 8 oz of chopped dark chocolate, and stir until smooth and melted.

Step 10: Serve and Enjoy

Serve the churros warm with the chocolate dipping sauce and enjoy!

Notes

Note 1:

Ensure the oil temperature is consistent for even frying.

Note 2:

For best results, serve churros immediately after making them.

Note 3:

Feel free to adjust the cinnamon-sugar ratio to your taste preference.

Note 4:

If the dough appears too thick, you can add a splash of water to adjust the consistency.
