Ingredients
- 14 oz extra-firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons gochujang
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the tofu.
Step 2: Prepare the Tofu
Drain the tofu and press it between paper towels or a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into cubes or slices as desired.
Step 3: Make the Marinade
In a bowl, combine gochujang, soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, and rice vinegar to create the marinade. Stir well until all ingredients are blended.
Step 4: Marinate the Tofu
Add the tofu pieces to the bowl with the marinade. Gently toss the tofu to ensure all pieces are well-coated. Allow it to marinate for at least 15-30 minutes.
Step 5: Bake the Tofu
Spread the marinated tofu evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tofu is golden and crispy.
Step 6: Serve
Once baked, remove the tofu from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve the gochujang tofu hot, garnished with scallions or sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
Marinating
Marinating the tofu in a mixture of gochujang, soy sauce, and other spices allows the flavors to penetrate the tofu, enhancing its taste. Aim to marinate for at least 30 minutes for the best results.
Baking
Baking the marinated tofu helps to achieve a crispy texture while keeping the inside soft. Preheat your oven and spread the tofu evenly on a baking sheet.
Flipping
Flipping the tofu halfway through the baking process ensures that both sides develop a golden-brown color and crispy texture, making it more enjoyable to eat.
Serving
Serve the baked gochujang tofu atop rice, in a salad, or as a side dish. It can complement various meals and add a spicy kick.
