Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) boneless chicken or lamb, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Pita bread, for serving
  • Sliced tomatoes, red onion, and lettuce, for garnish
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and drained
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh dill or mint (optional)

Instructions

Get Saucy!

In a bowl, mix together Greek yogurt, grated and drained cucumber, minced garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Pop it in the fridge to chill while you get those gyros sizzling.

Marinate the Meat!

Mix the sliced chicken or lamb with olive oil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Let that goodness soak for at least 15 minutes.

Cook Up a Storm!

Heat a skillet or grill on medium-high. Cook the marinated meat for 5-7 minutes until it’s fully cooked and slightly crispy.

Assemble Your Masterpiece!

Warm up the pita bread, then layer on the cooked meat, sliced tomatoes, red onion, and lettuce. Drizzle generously with your homemade tzatziki sauce.

Serve & Enjoy!

Wrap it up and savor every bite of your Greek feast!

Notes

For Extra Flavor!

Consider adding fresh dill or mint to the tzatziki sauce for an aromatic twist.

Perfect Garnishes!

Cucumber slices, olives, and feta cheese can also make great additional toppings for your gyros.

Cooking Method!

You can also grill the meat on skewers for a different texture and flavor.

Meal Prep!

Both the tzatziki sauce and the marinated meat can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for easy assembly later.
